Umpires

Become an umpire!

Love footy but can’t commit to playing? Want to support your local club and get paid to do so? Umpiring is an excellent way to stay physically fit, become involved with the sport, learn something new, get a chance to travel and earn some money!

What types of umpires are in footy?
In footy, we have various umpiring positions and opportunities.
Fundamental umpiring duties include:

  • Score keeping
  • Boundary umpiring (running the sidelines and bringing the ball back into play)

Advanced umpiring duties include:

  • Goal umpiring (determining scoring)
  • Field umpiring includes managing the game during play with the ultimate goal of enforcing rules and keeping players safe

Am I required to travel?
No! Umpires are encouraged to referee local but can also travel across the nation based on training and experience if you choose to.

How can I get trained?
The USAFL Umpires Association offers a variety of formats to get trained, including watching training videos, receiving personal coaching from senior umpires through calls and video, and attending umpire training clinics at local and regional tournaments
